Can i get duplicate court documents for a crime that I was a victim of?

I can't believe they are lost.
To report the person to social media sites where he has an account they request court documents as proof or a link to the news report.
Conviction was a little over 10 years ago and there isn't an online article for it. I have a paper copy of the local newspaper with it in.
Can I get duplicate court documents and how do I go about this?
Also he is using his middle name as his surname now, is that going to cause problems too?

The court should be able to access the (likely computerised) archived records.

Phone them.

PawPawNoodle · 22/05/2019 22:56

What are you reporting them for?

You can contact the court to see if they kept the documents, they may be archived in the Branston registry.

If he was on probation you could maybe liaise with the victim liaison unit.

He's not supposed to have Facebook because he's on the SO register.

He's not kept to himself, I know that sounds a bit vague but I don't want to give to much detail incase it's outing. Not on probation so police said if he tries again I could get an order to cease. They said it's easier if I report to Facebook and other sites directly myself.

Thanks for your help and I will try and make some calls.

The police can report it themselves!

PawPawNoodle · 23/05/2019 23:38

Hiya - might be worth contacting the police and asking them to report it then as it can take months for the court to get those documents, if they can at all.

Police can provide Facebook with the information they need.

He might not be on the SOR if the conviction was over 10 years ago.; if his sentence was between 6-30 months its 10 year registration.

Namechanger000 · 24/05/2019 21:48

It was a 6 year sentence and SOR for life. I suppose I might have to go back to the police then but I didn't feel like they could really be bothered the way they told me to just do it myself.

Was it a call taker that advised you that? If so, might be they don't know. Police can report it themselves without the need for online court documentation. I'm sorry you're having to chase around Thanks

PawPawNoodle · 25/05/2019 21:37

Ah I'm sorry to hear that, and I'm more sorry that you were the victim of this crime.

I would say to press it with police and to advise that you do not have the documentation so it is now their responsibility. Their reluctance may be however that it is a Facebook policy and (as far as I can remember) not a standard SOR condition.

If you search for The Law Pages and make a search under the 'sentences' tab, you might be able to get some information there to refer on to Facebook

Go into the police station, state he is on sex offenders register- condition no internet access... this is his Facebook account.
Don’t take so it yourself for an answer! There are whole teams that manage sex offenders in the police do it’s a big deal

Pppppppp1234 · 25/05/2019 21:47

Does his SOR actually have a no internet conditions? Or does he have a SHPO?

Sforsh49 · 25/05/2019 22:18

I used to work with RSO's. Ask for the MOSOVO Department of the relevant police force - they will visit and manage him. He is breaching his registration requirements by using a different name online, which is a criminal offence, BUT only if he hasn't registered the name as part of his annual notification requirements, if he has registered the name with the police then unfortunately he's not doing anything wrong.

Talia99 · 31/05/2019 22:16

There were a number of cases in the last few years about what is reasonable in regard to the length and content of SOPOs (now SHPOs). Loads of people took theirs back to Court and got them varied as a result.

Therefore, just because the Judge said something 10 years ago, that doesn’t mean it still applies.

Being on the SOR doesn’t stop someone being on Facebook - as far as I can tell it requires someone to notify the police about where they live, what name they are using, whether there are any children in the household and if they intend to travel abroad. I can’t find any requirements about computer use.

I agree with the poster who said you should report this to the police and let them sort it. If he has a SOPO or SHPO that addresses Facebook, the police should have a record.

Fatted · 31/05/2019 22:21

Being on the sex offenders register doesn't automatically mean you're banned from the internet or from using Facebook like others have said.

The police also won't necessarily tell you directly if he has these conditions and are taking action against him or not.

hammylehamster · 31/05/2019 22:33

It is in Facebook's own T&C's that sex offenders are not to use it.
