Arkansas passes new law for rapists to sue for abortion

A pregnant woman's husband will have the power to stop her from having an abortion, even in cases of spousal rape, under a new law introduced in the US state of Arkansas.

Most second trimester abortions will also be banned by Act 45 - the Unborn Child Protection From Dismemberment Abortion Act - which will make it possible for husbands to sue doctors who carry out abortions for civil damages, or get an injunction to block the termination.
The pro-life law, which was pushed through in just two months by the state's Republican government, prohibits all dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedures, in which the physician removes the foetus from the womb with surgical tools.
A clause in the legislation also states the husband of a woman seeking an abortion, if he is presumed to be the baby's father, can file a civil lawsuit against the physician for monetary damages or "injunctive relief" ― a court order that would prevent the doctor from going ahead with the procedure.
Although a husband cannot win money in cases of “criminal conduct” against his wife ― namely, spousal rape ― he could still sue to block her from having the abortion.
The woman’s parents or legal guardians can also sue to stop the abortion, if she is a minor.

What is your thoughts?

They should just own it and rename their country the United States of Gilead.

My thoughts?

The world is going to hell in a handcart. Women and girls are increasing being reduced to nothing but vessels, not sentient beings with rights. Erasing our rights for the wishes of others is the order of the day and it is frightening.

Yeah. It is quite scary how countries are trying and then succeeding in controlling women and there body's. If this is happening now I hate to think what other laws are going to be made in ten years time.

Bloody hell

I really don’t know how I feel about this.

One one hand, all babies are innocent and even a child conceived due to rape is worthy of life. On the other hand, forcing a women to stay connected to a rapist via a child is callous.

In cases of not spousal rape: it’s a hard one as well as the husband is the father of the child

This stuff isn't shocking me any more. Let's just sit tight and wait for it to arrive here.

StealthPolarBear · 19/05/2019 13:03

Babies are innocent and deserving of life. A fetus is not a baby.

I wonder how many shooting deaths in the USA are perpetrated by women.

I wonder how many executions are confirmed by female judges compared to men.

With apologies for my blunt language, I wonder why the killing and taking of life is fine as long as the decision is made by a man.

That hurts.

DecomposingComposers · 21/05/2019 02:49

How has this happened so quickly in America?

Does this reflect what the population thinks? I can't comprehend how a country like the US can change so comprehensively in such a short time.

RebootYourEngine · 21/05/2019 04:16

Who is going to be paying for the consequences of this law?
Who is going to support a child that may be unwanted or may be seriously unwell and need a lot of medical help.
Everyone should be pro-choice. It should be up to an individual what they do with regards to abortion not the government.

Adoption knowing you arent going to keep your baby is more common in America. They are more fundamental religiously too. I would imagine it will.get to the supreme court and be overturned.
