Coroner’s inquest records

I have name changed for this. My question is are Coroner’s inquest reports accessible by the public and if so, how?

I am quite old. Some years ago (more than 35) I was seriously assaulted by my then partner, the case never went to court. I googled his name today and it appears he has died and there is to be an inquest. Not sure if this has already taken place. I believe the case is at Westminster Coroner’s court but I can't find anything else online. I don't want to contact the court as I don't want to appear as a weird stalker and I am worried that his family may get to hear of my interest. I have no idea how he died or why there is an inquest. I would like to know the details to assure myself he is finally gone and I hope he died alone and in pain. Sorry if that makes me an awful person.

You're not an awful person, he assaulted you and you want closure. What made you Google his name today?

Thanks. I don’t really know why I googled it, I try not to think about it. I passed by his old house recently and that triggered it I think.

Newspapers sometimes report them. I have been looking at my ancestors and some old newspaper reports have been helpful. The inquest papers I requested sadly were long destroyed. You could telephone the coroner's office and ask them what records are available.

OK thanks I will try that.

Inquests are held in public so you could go if you wanted to. The coroner’s officer will be able to tell you if a date has been set for the inquest. Other than that, the local newspaper may we’ll report it. We go to all of our inquests and I’m always happy to speak to people who phone up and ask our newsdesk about them. We get at least two or three people every week ringing to ask about the various court cases of people they knew or know.

I think you can order a death certificate and that would show cause and place of death .
I'm happy to try and help if you want to PM me /
