Removal of information from GP files

Hi, need some advice to see whether I can actually do this and if so, how do I do it.

Several years ago an ex partner tried to smack two of my children as a punishment whilst in the middle of his own mental breakdown.
I was very scared at the time and I reported it immediately. As we were a military family, he was removed from the home that same day and it was reported to social services.
The children were put on to a CPP and stayed on that for around 7 months. My partner moved back home after 5 months and there were no further issues.
We separated 4 years ago.

However today I have been to my GP about an issue I have. She had to leave the room briefly so I took a look at the screen and on my record it says...

“Child in need”
“Child on protection plan”
“Child in need”
“Child off protection plan”

There are no dates attached to these comments but it is highlighted under a section that said “significant comments”.

I’ve come away quite upset as it’s brought back a lot of horrid memories but also, I feel as though I am being judged for something that I have not done.
I did the right thing at the time and adhered to SS demands, which were very difficult.
But now I want this removing from my file.

Is this possible and if so, how do I go about it?

Any information or experience will be greatly appreciated.

As long as your children are children it will need to remain on file. It does say they are no longer on the plan so it is up to date. Try not to think of it as a slur on you personally.

Hi, I’m a GP. I suggest you contact the practice about this, sometimes alerts get left on the computer even though the CPP has this expired. As long as they are sure that the children are no longer subject to a CPP they can end these alerts. However I don’t think it will be removed from the record completely as at one point they were subject to a CPP.

And don’t worry, nobody will have judged you, we understand these are put in place for all sorts of reasons. Good luck.

Thank you.
It did get me thinking that there have been occasions where I have taken my children to the doctors and they have asked me some odd questions or made a point of speaking to my children even though they haven’t been able to answer them. And I always wondered if that was because there was something on my file and they were aware of it.

It’s the fact it is on my file. They were on the plan because of someone else who I have nothing to do with and is not even the children’s father.

I will speak to the surgery and see what they say.

Had to comment as Ive experienced very similar. Two years ago I was reported to SS it was a malicious report and completelt unfounded. The SW asked for my permission to contact school/GP which I ofcourse gave. Anyway the case was closed with NFA however a few weeks later when I took my son to the GPs I was questioned why I was “under social services” I explained that I was and the case was closed but he clearly didnt believe me. More recently I took my son to a&e and was asked if we had SS involvement, I said no, however they went away and came back again and asked if they had ever been involved. So clearly it remains on the system even after being closed. And none of my children have ever been the subject of any plans. I think its unfair tbh. I will be following this post to see what others say.

I agree with your second post aswell, my son had chicken pox recently and they have cleared but are scabbed over. They were on him when he went to hospital and they seemed strangely concerned about them, they are judging because of what is on file.

I understand that professionals have to be cautious to ensure children are protected, I totally appreciate that. The job I have requires me to have a fully enhanced disclosure as I work in an environment where there are many children. So I appreciate the safeguarding aspect.
However, if there is no other information on my file to explain the reasons why then surely a GP would have a duty to question certain things?
That’s what I’m not comfortable with.
