Police investigation

OH was contacted by police in November regarding an allegation made against him about 15 years ago. Apparently, in a drunken or hungover state, he lied down next to the 15 year old daughter of his then girlfriend, over the covers not under, didn't touch her but she woke up and freaked out understandably. At the time he was in his early 20s. He later found out from the mum that daughter had been sexually abused by her dad. OH apologised repeatedly and they broke up not long after, for other reasons. OH found out a few years ago the dad had died. He has been haunted by this ever since always wondering if something would happen. He went to talk to the police who were really helpful. She has made a number of allegations about him and they questioned the girls friend at the time who had a slightly different story. My question is, it is now April and he has heard nothing. We dont know how to proceed. Do we assume there is no case to answer to or would they have contacted him.to confirm this? Is 5/6 months not that long for this kind of thing and maybe they are still investigating. We are stick in this limbo of not knowing what to do. I have suggested he rings the policeman he spoke to but I think he is scared in case there is still investigations going on.

What was he told at the time? Was he released under investigation?

A reported a rape and like PP, they interviewed him quickly but it took a further two years for a charging decision. The police told me that they hadn't had any contact with him or is lawyer in that time.

Thanks all, that's really helpful. I hope my post hasn't been triggering. To be honest, at the time i was dealing with another family issue so cant remember everything that was said. I think they just said they would be in touch. I'd have to check. Think I will try and encourage OH to give them a call for an update.

Did he have a solicitor in interview OP? If so they should chase the police for him. If not, a solicitor will take it on now and chase it. These things can take months, not just for the investigation but because they will referred to the cps (prosecution lawyers) for a decision.
