DBS checks

I have been living in Spain for the last two years and am working as a teacher. The school has decided that they need a DBS certificate. How do I obtain this? I have no UK address and although my parents live there, surely if the check was done using their address it would be obvious I don't actually live there as I haven't paid tax or received a salary. Can anyone help??

Slightly bizarrely I'm helping someone who is returning to the UK sort out a DBS. We gather that she will need to do two. One to cover the years before she left here via our DBS system and the Spanish equivalent for the years there.

You can't go through the government website as don't have a UK address but have to use one of the checking firms.

As there is a cost I would really recommend that you get your employer to confirm exactly what they will accept.

I'm in the middle of doing this, you also need to apply for a Certificate of Good Conduct from Spain for the time you had a foreign address. You'll need your NIE number and a legalised photocopy of your passport. It's a bit faffy and takes a bit of time, but seemingly can be done.

happy I'm still in Spain. It's the Spanish company who need a UK DBS check.

NEWM The School here in Spain just need a basic one, the one that costs £25 (if you live in the UK). Is there a high cost for applying with no UK address?

Sorry I thought you meant on your return. That's a bit strange as the UK DBS is normally attached to the institution, not individual. Can you apply for the Spanish version? It might be worth having a chat with your employer about what they need it exactly to do as sometimes the equivalents are not exact.

If you go on to gov.uk site they list the 'responsible organisations' that do it.

I think it was £75 rather than £25.

I think you use their address for current address and it's deemed okay.

Ok, thanks 👍
