Just had my offer accepted on a house, for the first time ever, very exciting !
I'm married (almost a year now) and have a child from previous marriage and one with my now husband. The house I am buying is in cash fully from an inheritance my mum left me when she died recently. I am now looking to sort out stuff with the conveyancing solicitor , and need to have the home in either sole or joint ownership.
My dilemma is whether to go joint or sole? Can anyone offer some help?

If you are buying the house outright by yourself then I would put it in just your name.

Whether it is in your sole name or joint names, it would be up for grabs if you split up because you are married.

To help prevent that you should have a post nuptial agreement drawn up AND own the property in your sole name.

Also get a Will. In the event you pass away, you may not want your DH to fully benefit and may want to make provision for your child.

That should say provision for your children.

Thanks

Sole name, but beware DH could still have a claim if you split up. I definitely agree you need to make a Will though.
