Problems with car bought on hp

Any legal experts out there? I bought a 3 year old car on hp from a well known dealer. The car started breaking down intermittently when it was 10 months old and has been in the garage for repairs 4 times now, at different garages. This has been going on for 6 months now, the last garage which was a specialist garage said they could find nothing wrong with it and to take it back if problem occurred again.
The car broke down again on Sunday leaving me stranded once again, but then restarted when I went back to it the next day.

What are my legal rights, it is costing me £189 a month for a car which has been off the road more times than on it in the last 6 months and I have no confidence in it at all. If anyone else has any advice it would be much appreciated.

As you bought the car on HP the finance company is responsible if there are problems with the car, not the dealer. The problem you have is that, if I understand you correctly, the car was ok for the first 10 months. That means it is up to you to prove that the car was faulty when you bought it. If the fault has developed since you bought the car due to normal wear and tear I'm afraid that is your problem. However, if there was an inherent fault which only became apparent after 10 months it is the finance company's problem.

I have a warranty on the car for repairs so paying for them isn't a problem. The problem is it's had over a £1000 spent on it and they are now saying there are no faults showing on the diagnostics.
What can I do when they are saying there is nothing wrong with it when there obviously is?
I bought the car as I need it for work and it's beginning to affect my business as I can't rely on it.
