Advice re will as lone parent, one child

Good morning,
I would really appreciate some advice before booking a solicitors appt as I am confused as to what sort of will I need, having researched them on line.
I am a single parent with DD15, one property (mortgaged), paying in to a teacher's pension and fixed term life assurance. I would want my daughter to be sole beneficiary.
If something were to happen to me, she would probably live with her dad in my house or with her grandparents. I
Is a simple will sufficient or should I be looking at a Trust Will (property or life interest)?
Thank you for any insight or advice.

I’m a solicitor. I’d be recommending a discretionary trust unless you can be really confident in stating what age your DD will be able to manage her inheritance herself. In the meantime, your trustees would be able to help her with education, living expenses, etc etc

Thank you namechange
Can I ask, if there is a discretionary trust, if can have an end age or a fixed term for DD, eg up to the age of 21?

Yes you can, typically it’s 25, but most people prefer to leave that to the trustees to decide. You wouldn’t know for example if your DD would be married, having financial problems, financially responsible etc at that age, which is why most people don’t specify an age.
