Hoping for some advice. My daughter is 13 and maybe wants to help out with my small photo booth business. This would mean she would be in pubs and venues with me. She would be working till at least 10pm at night time with me. I am allowed to do this? Or do I have to wait until she is 16, I have read something about possible needing a permit due to her age.

There are multiple things detailed in your post that wouldn’t be allowed. The main ones being she can’t work after 7pm or for more than 2 hours on school days & Sundays and she can’t work on licensed premises.

These restrictions are in place up until the last Friday in June of Year 11.

Thanks for that info that's brilliant. Last question. Can a child work on a Saturday night but not on a licensed premises

Not after 7pm.

They can work up to 5 hours on a Saturday between 7am & 7pm.

Note that some of the restrictions are relaxed during school holidays. The limit of 5 hours on a Saturday, 2 hours on school days and Sundays only applies during term time. You can find full details of the restrictions at www.gov.uk/child-employment/restrictions-on-child-employment.

Phil can I just ask if I did take my 13 year old to a venue and they worked after 7pm. What would happen to me legally?

You could be fined up to £1,000 for each offence.

I'm not a lawyer, but you'd probably also have to deal with the wrath of the landlord, when he/she finds out that you are bringing a child into a licensed premises to work, and potentially jeopardising his livelihood and licence.

Don't do it.

You could be fined up to £1,000 for each offence.

The Education Welfare Officer may also become involved.
