If a driver hits a person, and dog, how do you go about reclaiming costs (vets bills and loss of earnings)? Police and ambulance attended, both in hospital/vets still days later, have a crime reference number but where do you start please?

Have you spoken to the insurance company. Hope they are recovering.

Insurance company handles that, I hope they are ok!

You have details of the driver's insurers you contact them. If not, you contact the driver.

We haven't got the insurers details but I assume police release those do they? Do I just call and ask for them? The person hit didn't get to speak to the driver as they were laid out incapacitated so the police dealt with it all. Thanks all for the replies and wishes

If it was the drivers fault then the injured party would contact a solicitor who would pursue a claim with the drivers insurance company.
You don't contact them yourself.

If rhe driver is at fault and liability not in dispute, the insurer may seek to deal with the pedestrian (the "innocent third party") directly if they have their details. They may make an offer for damages and direct you to their own treatment providers, if necessary.

Otherwise the pedestrian will need to engage their own solicitor to bring a PI claim against the driver, through their insurance company.

Try your household insurance, it may cover you for things like this. They'll claim against the driver. Or just a normal PI solicitor.

The pedestrian does not have to use a solicitor. It may be easiest to do so, particularly if you have insurance that will cover your costs, but it is not essential.
