Car inspection that didn't happen - is there anything I can do?

1st post. Sorry its long Blush

I've been car hunting and thought I'd found my ideal car. Having very little knowledge of car buying, I decided to get an AA inspection done (£202), which the garage agreed to. It was arranged between the AA and the garage on Wednesday that they would inspect the car on Friday. The AA were told by the garage that the car was having it's Mot done on Wednesday afternoon so Friday was fine.
Fast forward to Friday and I had a call from the AA to say that they couldn't do the inspection as the car wasn't on the premises when they arrived. Despite the AA calling the garage on Friday to confirm the inspection and to give an approximate time of arrival. The AA have said that they will have to deduct £76 for cancellation but would refund the remaining £126. They advised me to call the garage to see if they would pay the cancellation fee, which I did. The garage claimed that the car was being valeted off site when the AA arrived which is why it wasn't available. I questioned why the AA had been told that it had gone for an mot (despite it supposedly being mot'd on Wednesday) and was told that it had gone to be mot'd and valeted as both services were done at the same place. I told them that I had been charged a cancellation fee and was told that there was nothing they could do about it. I've also done a quick check on the number plate and the car is still showing as no mot on the gov website.
Is there anything that I can do? Or do I just put it down to bad luck? (Or maybe good luck after looking at some of the garage's reviews on Google Hmm )

All the misinformation and messing around would make me assume that the seller knows that the car would fail the AA inspection. So I would look for another one. You've lost £76, but if the inspection had gone ahead and you were advised not to buy the car you would have lost £202. And if you had bought it without an inspection and it was a dud it could have cost you who knows how much.

Thanks for your reply.
That was my thought too, that the garage knew the car wasn't up to scratch. If they hadn't agreed to an inspection then I wouldn't have bought the car anyway as that would have set alarm bells ringing. I suppose I'm just feeling annoyed at being out of pocket lol.

You dodged a bullet.

Write a letter before action stating why you think the garage is liable, requesting refund.

No refund - lodge a claim online and let them either defend it in court, or pay up. You have to pay to claim which would be refunded if you win. I can't see them defending it, but I could see them not turning up - maybe they'll be having a valet instead ?
