CAFCAS

I've had a call from my cafcas officer this week and cannot find any information on what she's told me on line. I offered My daughters farther the ability to write to her to re start his realtionship with her he reluctantly accepted this at the beginning of November. I told the cafcas lady that DD was still awaiting a letter from him when she visited me mid month. She has subiquently now told me that she has told the dad to pass the letter on through her and she will go into school to read this with my DD and to ask her to respond with her there. I'm not too happy that my daughter will be having her education disrupted again for her to see her and for her to be reading the letter without me seeing it first. And for me to know how she was reading it and what she is replying with. Is this normal practice or a last resort for him with him not writing in nearly 2 months. My solicitor has only known this happen once before in all her career. It's worrying me that they are bending over backwards for him and that he will not get this wrote into the section 7 report that didnt write to her for 2 months of the three month gap between the 1st and 2nd court dates.

I presume there’s a concern expressed by father that you’re undermining his relationship with your daughter.

The best thing you can do is accept the decision of CAFCASS and allow her to report on your daughter’s reaction. This is not the hill you want to die on. Using her missing time in class is a poor excuse.

I know of a few people where the contact by letter has been done in school time.

We have social workers of all descriptions in school pretty much on a daily basis. It is a non-threatening safe place for the child so is used for a wide range of meetings. A half hour meeting will hardly disrupt your daughter's education irrepairably.

She has been taken out so much over this year for social services, cafcas, harbour. She told me that she would only see my DD once and then never again. Exh has ignored emails from my solicitor asking for all correspondence to go through them he has ignored cafcas requesting he wrote to her in the past. He has also broke a court order stating he must write to her. So because he thinks he is above the law she has to have her day disrupted. Contact was stopped due to him asaulting me in front of her and him saying he did nothing wrong. He has battery on his criminal record.

How long are cafcas involved for? Do they go after the section 7 report or do they hang round for ages?

They stay involved for as long as they need to.

I don't think "hang around" quite covers their role!
