Hello, I know mumsnet seems to frown on compensation claims however I would appreciate views on the offer I have received.

To summarise, I was absent from work for ten days then returned on shortened hours for another week.

Insurance paid for 6 physio sessions. Whiplash recovery 13 weeks. Still have popping sounds which apparently may never fully go.

Saw gp twice. Prescribed painkillers & heat cream and advised to use heat. Pre-existing Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Also pre-existing anxiety which worsened following accident. Referred by medical adviser to Psychologist who diagnosed travel anxiety. Had a few sessions and remain on a higher dose of anti-depressants than usual.

Offered £1750 in full and final settlement. Does this seem an acceptable amount? I don’t want matters to drag on if this is reasonable.

Any responses will be appreciated.

I have legal cover on the house insurance but I’ve gone with the solicitor the car insurance referred me onto.

I would imagine getting knocked off your bike was far more traumatic. Sounds like you were relatively lucky.

Ok so if you are still worried about the popping in your shoulder then you can refuse this offer and ask your solicitor to arrange an examination by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to investigate whether the popping is related to the incident and whether the incident has accelerated or aggravated your pre-existing arthritis. I think this would be a good idea. The offer of £1750 is probably just the insurance company trying to buy off the claim early.

In some cases you can ask for an interim payment to tide you over and that is deducted from the final agreed settlement. I've worked in personal injury claims for a long time if you want any more specific help feel free to pm me.

Yes, it’s probably too low (unless the £1750 is what you’d receive in your pocket after the solicitor takes their 25% success fee?) a standard uncomplicated 13 week whiplash is worth about £2,100. But beyond that no one here can give you a valuation because we don’t have enough information. Ask your solicitor to give you a valuation of your injuries based on the medical reports using the judicial college guidelines. They know what this means! And they should definitely advise you as to a bracket of reasonable valuations.

Seems low. I had 4k when someone went into the back. Of me and wrote car off

I had an accident 21 years ago. Whiplash and also saw a psychiatrist. I got £3000. I suffered with whiplash for years off and on and actually still have a weakness on that side and have to be careful with certain exercise.
