Consent order is it needed?

I have been separated from my ex nearly 2 years. We agreed the terms and drafted a consent order but due to waiting a ridiculous amount of time for pension figures we have only just added these to the order.
Because it took so long we have already separated everything as per the order with it going to court.
We have our decree absolute issued already. Do we still need to bother with the consent order?
I understand legally that without it being rubber stamped in court neither of are legally bound. But for either of use to back track on any of it now would be a whole heap of hassle that I don't think either of use would bother doing.

Is it essential that we continue to get it stamped by a court?

Yes as otherwise either one could come back for more at a later date.

Well I would - so that neither of you can change your mind later. You never know what could happen - after all when you got married, you didn't expect to divorce!

Yes, as Red says. If you don't have it then in 2 years oor even 20 years when one of you is worth £1m or whatever the other can claim as in England finances are not when you part but when the court looks at the finances which could be later. Also do be careful to get or not to get a clean break in the order depending on your financial position.
