Problem with a Retailer - Is there anything I can do about this?

So we bought a sofa suite that obviously cost us a lot of money. Waited about 7 weeks for delivery after they told us it would be no more than 5 weeks, and we had to pay a small amount extra for delivery. Sighed and got on with it. They arrive, and the sofas, because of the design of the high backs, won't fit into our house through the front, and the delivery fellas say there is no way they'd fit in any other way, e.g. through windows or the back or anything. They said this is the third delivery this morning that this has happened, and that it's a particular problem with this style of sofa. Surely the woman who sold it to us should have brought this to our attention? I mean, we obviously don't know anything about sofas, I feel that sofa retailers should discuss things like this that they know are recurring problems for people?!

Was put on the phone to the lady who deals with this at the store, she tells us we are entitled to no refund at all (despite their own website saying we should be able to sell it back to them for 75% of the initial cost), and our only option is for them to contact an external supplier and have them break it down, then bring it and fixed back up again in the living room. We deliberated and figured that would be the most convenient and cheaper option anyway, so we agreed to that, first availability was a further week away, she gave us a price of £x which we confirmed twice over the phone and have recordings of the conversation, and she confirmed no further delivery charge.

She passed on the name and phone number of the fella delivering it, so called them today just to confirm everything was ok for tomorrow. After checking the price with him, he pauses and says "I wasn't expecting to do them both for that price," but doesn't give any alternative price, and expresses surprise that we want both of the sofas breaking down. The lady at the store said she had discussed all this with them and agreed the price of £x.

Have called the store to ask what the hell is going on with the above but have been told that he lady who deals with it is busy and will call back Hmm.

I'm terrified this man is going to come tomorrow to deliver these sofas with me at home alone with my 3 month old, and demand a much higher sum of money in cash. If that happens, what can I do about it? Can I tell him to sod off and speak to the retailer? We were given the name of the company that this man works for but a Google search has not delivered any results, and he has a local accent. I'm really worried about being effecively exhorted into giving lots of extra money - that I wouldn't have in cash at home anyway, for one - but also worried about how I can dispute this with a local man who knows where we live? The service was arranged by the national retailer and they were the ones who quoted the price, but the payment is to be made to the fella coming out to us in person tomorrow.

Is there anything I can do if he demands more money? I mean practically rather than just legally tbh. And is there anything I can do to complain about this retailer and the crappy service they have provided us with, ideally with a view to some (small) amount of compensation?

Phone the guy the morning and confirm the price before he arrives. And if you decide you don’t want them and the contract says you should get 75% back then I would push for that. (Although it might be cutting your nose of to spite your face as you will have no sofas and might end up with the same problems)

When I have bought sofas it’s always been explained to me that it’s my responsibility that it can fit my house, not theirs. They don’t know your house so I can’t see why you would expect compensation.

It is common knowledge that it is your responsibility to ensure the sofa will fit in your house. I imagine it will be in the terms and conditions you signed. I don’t see why you should have any compensation.
