What can I do to prevent an LPA being granted?

A family member has an LPA for finance for an elderly, vulnerable relative. They're not acting in the best interests of the person and don't at all have a grip on their financial affairs, indeed they were unaware of how much money the person has access to and are trying to force them to go into a home when they could afford care at home, which is what elderly relative wants. The same family member is now saying they will be applying for an LPA for health and welfare. I believe they want to have the elderly relative deemed unfit to make decisions. Elderly relative is more than capable mentally (confirmed by GP) but does get a bit confused sometimes as this relative is constantly going on at them, almost bullying them and frightening them about not having enough money, about having to go into a home because they can't afford home care. I suspect an ulterior motive here and want to prevent anything untoward. What can I do please?

Contact the local adult social services safeguarding team and the office of the public guardian.

Surely a care home would cost more?

Office of the Public Guardian is right, speaking from experience

Thank you. Social services safeguarding are involved now and will contact OPG.

RedHB, at home care is much more expensive than home care as it involves overnight care.

Thanks all again.
