If someone is convicted of sexual assault in the UK, might they be told to pay prosecution costs?

If the CPS bring a case against someone & they are found guilty, is it normal for them to be made to pay the prosecution's costs?

I know (a relative of a relative) someone who was sentenced to prison for rape and some other charges. He wasn't made to pay costs.

I don't think it's usual for the government to make people, convicted of a crime, pay the costs of prosecution.

There is often a victim surcharge.

More likely to be given a costs order if no prison sentence, so difficult to say definitively, but frankly it's normally the least of their worries following a conviction of that nature...

My abuser was ordered to pay £1500 towards prosecution costs as part of his sentencing + victim surcharge payment of £500.

As Cabin fever said though, that was the least of his worries!
