Scottish friend is upset, her daughter (15)sneaked out with friend for a walk ended meeting someone she had never met before who within an hour had sexually molested her, he was too strong so she couldn't break away. Someone intervened, he made off, she was saved just in the nick of time from much worse. Q is should she prosecute? Yes in theory he is dangerous and guilty but girl lives in a small community is worried people would find out.The molester is 21.Since he tried to find her online. By doing a statement would this protect her afterwards even if she dropped it - eg. there is a record. If she does a statement can she drop it? Could the copfs force it forward. The girl is very scared, flashbacks/nightmares. She wants to try and forget about it and move on but is frightened he will come after her. Her mum wants to do the best thing for daughter, doesnt know what to suggest. I told her to ask on here but she was worried about getting identified. I don't know all the details but the kid is sweet, not worldy wise at all.

Was the friend a witness to the assault? Personally I would advise involving the police but if the dd won't co operate there's not much that can be done unless the friend reports it.

The state prosecutes. You could bring a civil case. However it’s best to involve the police.
