What can we do?!

My DH recently started wirking for a company but became ill during the probation period and lost his job. Fair enough.

Whilst he was there the company asked for proof of his qualifications for audit, so he took in 22 years worth of certificates.

They have lost them!

The senior manager has stated he passed them to the middle manager, however the middle manager is adamant he has never seen them. They have been on alternate holidays all summer, so it's all been he said/she said.

What on earth can we do? My DH is in an industry that requires proof of qualifications to gain employment. He is now recovered from his illness, but without his certificates can't get a job.

We can order replacements, but each exam board costs £44 to do a search (there's at least five) plus charges for each replaced certificate. It's literally hundreds of pounds we can't really afford on one salary and all the middle manager is doing is shrugging!

DH has an interview next week and if he is successful he will need the certificates.

Oh bloody hell, that’s bad. Has your DH requested they pay for replacements? I think I would send them an invoice with receipts (not originals). I think from now on he should use copies of his certificates as well, would that be acceptable to employers?

He told the middle manager he wanted reimbursing and he shrugged and said tell the senior manager.

I'm raging at the lack of fucks he appears to give!

Yes, shocking. Get the replacements and send them the bill. Keep a paper trail of all correspondence (ie email NOT phone, I am sure you are doing that already) I hope it gets sorted.

Write it down!

Formal letter with a detailed list of what was sent. Then detailed narration of who was given them. Explain they are now required to produce them within 7 days of receipt of the letter [send recorded delivery]

Note that you are applying for roles that require certificates. Any losses suffered from being unable to take up employment will be owed by Losing Company to include loss of wages.

You look forward to hearing from them with urgency.

Isnt this a breach of data as the documents contain personal data, and so contravenes ICO regulations?

Coolaschmoola · 01/09/2018 04:11

I don't know Angrybird, but I'll definitely have a look! Thanks!
