Depends on the complexity of the estate. I have done it - online now so much easier!

Yes it was very straightforward . It included a house sell but I decided to do that after probate had been granted to me. I didn't rush the paperwork but did it over a few days as opposed to one long slog.

I am a solicitor and do loads of probates but I still tell people to do it themselves if it’s non-taxable and they have the time. There are some potential tax problems to have in mind but you can always talk to a solicitor or accountant about them for an hour rather than paying someone to do the whole lot.

Yes I did it myself as refused to pay the £6k quoted to me! It was not difficult but I used Which? Probate and they sent a good guide with steps to follow and all the forms. They were available for online and telephone queries and I also got good advice from the Land Registry.

Yes I have. It involved my DMs estate which was under the inheritance tax threshold but involved a sale of a house.

There is lots of information on line on how to apply for probate as well as paying off debts, notifications of debts and distributing the estate.
