Advice on picking a solicitor or firm? (immigration)

I'm hoping to soon move forward with my citizenship application. Due to how much immigration laws change and because my application isn't entirely straightforward partially due to how long I've been here since I got ILR and changes in both the UK and US in that time, I want to seek legal advice but unlike previous legal issues I don't have anyone I know that can recommend anyone. Also, this is a big expense and deal for me which means I'm likely overthinking this and hoping some words of experience will clear my head.

Basically, is there anything I should particularly look for or any red flags I should be aware of to prevent ending up with bad advice? I've already been screwed over by the US's embassy's guidance so am really wary about moving forward and wasting significantly more money and time with this which is more important and if screwed up, it will be years until I can save up enough again and who knows what changes will happen during that time.

I've narrowed it down I think to 4 firms that are close to me. 2 do several legal areas including immigration whereas 2 are immigration-only; 2 are local firms, 1 is a national firm, 1 is an international firm; 2 have their accreditation really clearly displayed on their website; 2 have clearly advertised free consultations...any experience would be appreciated!

Sounds like you are being very sensible about it. I have always thought it seems like a really complicated legal area and don't have any advice. A few of my clients have used www.gherson.com/ but I have no connections to that firm and I am sure there are lots of good ones around.

Pay someone, and go with the ones with accreditations either from OISC or IAAS.
