Car accident

I had a very minor car accident last week, the person who caused it refused to give me any more details other than his mobile number and his first name, he would not verify who he was with a driving license. I took a pic of his number plate.

I have reported to my insurance company but they have not managed to get hold of him, I was wondering what the next steps Are?

Have your insurers found his insurers via the reg? If not report to the police for not providing full info. We're they awkward at the scene with you?

Yes, they have found his insurance but need to get a response from him as I only had a first name

They should be reporting the matter to his insurance company and make it their issue to get hold of their insured

If the other driver did not give their name and address they have committed an offence unless they have reported the incident to the police. I would report them to the police.

So I have managed to find the other persons full details and have passed them onto my insurance bit they are saying he hasn't reported it

The other drivers insurers will contact him to discuss the claim your insurers have made. He should respond if he avoids his insurers then it will void his insurance policy and they will more than likely agree to deal on a without prejudice basis for you

Thank you, fingers crossed it is straightforward

Hey, this happened to me, although the man who hit us didn't even give his name or number (although he did give us £300!).

He ignored correspondence from his own insurance company for a while. Just as I had almost given up, he got in touch with them and admitted that he was at fault. Good news for me!

I was told that if they don't respond within a certain time frame, it has to go through my insurance and pay my excess, and then I'd have to go claim the money back from his insurance, or something.

Don't forget to report it to your local police force too.
