Narcissistic MIL dropped this into conversation over the weekend, we’re trying to work out if she’s just stirring up drama or there’s likely to be a problem... (executor on holiday so we can’t ask him)

97yo dies, copy of will leaving everything to 2 sons and in case the are no longer around split between their children. Both her sons had indeed already passed so that would be the case.

Mil now saying ‘they’ (?) don’t believe the will as it’s only a copy and not the original. So executor has to go to court and it may be over a year until estate is settled.

I just don’t understand why... there’s nothing unusual in it, estate is one house and is under IHT threshold. There’s no other will and no one has contested it.

Why would there be a problem? Is there a chance she’s just making it up or is it likely?

In England in case it makes a difference

Thank you!

Presumably solicitor has original and executor / next of kin therefore has copy?

Don’t think anyone has the original

If copy has name of solicitors who made it, they may well have the original in safe storage. That's what we found with MIL if solicitors are no longer around, your local Law Society will know what happened to their documents,
