Deed of variation

My df has been left a small cash amount by his df and his sister (da) has been left the house.

My df has said that he'd rather just let da have the money for the hassle of sorting, selling and council tax in the property. He won't go to a solicitors though (he's apathetic and depressed) to do a deed of variation though. Can da, who had pa and is executor just keep it as per his wishes? All the family are in agreeable and there's nobody who would contest it.

Yes, though if he dies within 7 years, the gift will be taxed as part of his estate. If it’s a large amount, do a deed of variation. If it’s a couple of thousand, just pay it over.
