divorce costs

STBXH is divorcing me but hasn't told me on what grounds yet although it will have to come under unreasonable behaviour. He is apparently going to ask his solicitor what is best to choose but it doesn't seem very fair when I've done nothing wrong that I'll be the one said to be unreasonable.

He has walked out on me and our DD and basically left us, then we've had to sell the house and now he wants the divorce.

Does this mean as I'll be the respondent that I'll have to pay? With all the costs of moving due to him I really can't afford £550 or even half of that.

It is not the case that the respondent always pays. In the vast majority of divorces the petitioner pays the costs. Most lawyers would advise the petitioner not to attempt to claim costs as that can result in the respondent withdrawing co-operation, slowing down the process.

Thank you! I asked him last night and he said he would pay it all. Decent of him I guess as he's the one who left me.
