NCP parking charge

I have just received a £60 'charge' in a private ncp car park, for parking 'outside the marked bay'. This bay was only marked at the back, so no line to the side, and my car tyre was 2 inches over the line! I have read up on this elsewhere, and my instinct is to ignore it. I feel that appealing that I was only a little bit over would have no sway and would be a waste of time. I know this has come up elsewhere on here, so apologies if this a bit repetitive. But my plan is to not enter into any correspondence with them and ignore any threats I get. Would this be the right course of action?

No it would not.
Ignoring is outdated advice, these private companies can now and will take you to court and add on excessive additional fees if it gets that far.

The recommendations advice is to appeal if you have a legitimate defense, it you don’t you can try to negotiate a reduced fee or just pay it.

Ignore it at your on peril the law has changed they can easily now enforce in court appeal if that fails you ether pay the £60 or risk it going to court and getting charged more. (its near enough rubber stamp case now rather then intensive work previously).

Sorry that was the wrong link.
this is for private parking companies

I've had two of these, just ignore. There used to be a website that showed how many letters each parking company had sent out vs how many people they'd actually taken to court, NCP was something ridiculous like 10,000 letters and 4 actual court appearances. Don't engage as this admits liability, they will pass it on to a 'solicitor' like Gladstones who will send you a few letters too, this is not the same as a debt collector so don't let it worry you.

SillySallySingsSongs · 01/08/2018 12:38

It's old advise to just ignore. They are taking to court and they are winning.

If your car tyre was two inches over the line I suspect your car actually hungover the line by considerably more.

Lucisky · 01/08/2018 13:20

Oh well, that s a bugger then! I have read the links thanks to the pp who posted them. I think I'll have to pay up and chalk it down to experience. I am just so cross! It seems like more trouble than its worth to go through all the letter writing and appealing.

Collaborate, that's why I was so annoyed, because there were no lines to park between, just a sort of bracket mark at the rear of the bay. The car park is gravel. I hadn't seen the bracket and just parked close to and parallel with the adjacent car, but obviously not close enough.

Well that is your defence then, isn't it? Take photos of the bay you parked in. Make it clear that the markings are either unclear or not there.

AtomicGlitterBomb · 01/08/2018 13:42

That is your defence.

It cost so nothing to try to appeal so you may as well try.
