Can I ask a question about probate?

When probate has been granted and you get the final bit of paper with value on it what does that include if you left everything to a surviving spouse?
There's a big back story, I'm worried about how my Dad's coping following the death of my mother and particularly if some decisions he's making are because he needs the money or otherwise. Hes currently going through the dementia diagnosis process, I have power of attorney but he's still deemed to have capacity currently & isn't willing to discuss his finances. I'm worried he's about to get him self into a financial mess.
So, if the probate certificate said £200,000 for example does that include 50%of the value of the house if it was left to a spouse or not? I've tried to Google but can't find a clear answer.
Probate was completed by a solicitor so I'm happy it's been done correctly.
Many thanks

Ask the probate office.

If a solicitor has done it, at the end of the process you'll expect a very clear statement setting out what fell in to the estate and how it has been distributed. As you're unsure I'm going to hazard a guess that it's not been handled by a professional, and that is why it isn't clear at all.

If you mean the grant of probate, that indicates what you think the estate will not exceed in value, and will should include everything. If you've only just received the grant of probate you're some way off distributing the estate.
