Which Court?

Is there a way of finding which court & when someone's case is due to be heard at?
BiL was arrested & all his computers seized about 18 months ago. We've now heard from MiL (elderly with v poor memory) that a policeman came to the house with details of the court case. Of course she cannot remember anything.
BiL is extremely secretive about all this & refuses to engage on any level with us.
Due to the nature of what happened - all computers being seized, I am keen to know whether or not I need to keep my DS away from him.
Any help would be gratefully received.

In Scotland there are court rolls available online with just a name and which court for 5 days in advance, not sure if the rest of the U.K. does it too?

I hope you manage to find out OP. If you’re concerned does Sarah’s Law apply? Asking for a disclosure?

Usually you can find out on government websites what court cases will be heard

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 03/07/2018 17:03

Thank you both for replying. I haven't been able to find out if there is 1 central website for English courts (not in Scotland)

Excellent idea about Sarah's Law, although I may have to wait for a conviction for that

Could you contact SW and ask if they could do a risk assessment? At least that would answer if you need to keep your DS away from him.

@SoddingUnicorns Thank you. Can I just call SS? In the area I live in or where he lives?

Oh that might complicate things if it’s two areas, I had that problem with XH.

Contact your local one for advice

I don't think in England in most cases they publish it because they don't allocate a judge until just before so it is very hard to do judge threatening or tampering. Eg in business cases they put up at the high court which cases will be heard the next day only about 3pm on the day before deliberately late in the day and it is not centralised.

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 03/07/2018 20:56

@Xenia that makes sense I guess. Frustrating though

Every criminal case will start life in a magistrates court - the court local to the offence. If he's being investigated for indecent photos and they took the computers from his home address, the case should be heard at his local court initially. Ring the court and ask, if you give his name and DOB they should be able to locate the case and tell you when it was heard and the result or when it's due up.

All first hearings are in the magistrates' court and will be in the local area of where your bil was arrested/lives. Phone the listings dept and ask them when it is to be heard.
