Changing name back to Maiden Name

Hi

I am separated from exdh. He was abusive and seeing his surname on all my documents and having to use it, makes me feel sick.

I finally move into my own home today and want a fresh start.

I want to go back to my maiden name, do I need to do this by deed poll? I looked on the government website which said if you are married, you must get your husbands or wife's permission.

And I need a declaration f4om someone I have know 10 years, who owns their own home who isn't a relative. No one I know fits that criteria. My relatives tend to be home owners, but my friends aren't.

Not sure if it's because it's so early and I need more coffee, but the government website isn't making sense to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's odd how weird people can be about men changing their name.

Dbro wasn't attached to his name either (same reason as me). His wife to be was and they didn't like them together, so he changed His. He got loads of unwelcome comments.

I pick the keys up for my home in a couple of weeks. Can't wait. Hope today carries on being as good as its been so far this morning.

I wonder if that guidance about permission from husband or wife relates to the clause in the declaration where you have the option to say that your spouse also changes their name. I've never really thought about what happens if you're married and using your husband's surname and then he changes it to something else.
