Different Surname to DS - Problems at Passport/Border Control

Has anyone ever encountered problems leaving the country with their child who is subject to a court order?

I'm just in the process of renewing my ds's passport (my Ex is aware and in agreement with my holiday dates). The court Order will be sent in with the application.

In addition to this I've heard of people needing 'supplementary' evidence at Passport / Border control if the child has a different surname to the parent their travelling with... my ds and I do as I wasn't married to my Ex.

Please can anyone clarify this.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you.

My Ex has said he currently doesn't have a current Passport... Do you know if he still has an expired Passport whether I need to put the details of that on my ds's renewal form.

I was told by border control at Gare du Nord that I needed to take DC's birth certificate alongside passport.

Depends where you are going. For some countries you won't be allowed on the plane without suitable proof that the child is yours.

Thanks.

I'm going to Spain.

My ds has a full birth cert so I'll take that...
and to be doubly sure as there's a Court Order I think I type up a letter stating the duration of the holiday with flight details/dates and my Ex's contact details on it and have him sign it as per the link sent by AveABanana.

The things you have to do!!!

If the birth cert has the same name for you as your passport should be fine. If not - and you are/were married - take marriage certificate

Yes Cloud the birth cert and my passport have the same surname on for me. I wasn't married to ds's father.
He's returned the consent form (signed) to me now but I'll still take the birth cert too.

I've always taken a copy of the birth certificate but all that has ever happened is that the people checking the passports have pointed to me and asked DD who I am.

Ironically we've only ever been asked on the way into the UK and never on the way out. The US asked when we left once and the UK asked when we arrived from Germany.

My dd has a different surname, is a different race and a different nationality to me. It's not a big deal - I always carry a birth cert and that's enough. I carry the court order just for safety, but haven't been asked for that. They ask dd if I'm her mother and they seem satisfied when she says yes.
