French house sale Power of Attorney - who can witness?

We are selling our house in France and need to grant power of attorney to the notaire in France. They have asked us to have the PoA witnessed and stamped with an official stamp.

Who would be the best person to ask to do this or do we need a solicitor?

I’m presuming the document is in French? When I needed to deal with French bureaucracy after my French grandparents died I had to get some documents validated and signed by a French speaking Notary here in England. There’s a specialist multilingual firm of notaries working somewhere near the Strand in London. But worth clarifying with the notaire in France. They might be happy with a high street solicitor ‘s clerk witnessing it here. Which would be cheaper/ free.

Thanks whataboutbob. The PoA has been translated into English so at least we're ok on that score.

I have contacted a local Notary (I didn't know such people existed!) and should hopefully be able to get them to officially witness it.

When we sold ours I just used our local solicitor, like you it was translated so no problem.

Hope things go ahead smoothly now!
