How can I access what happened at a trial? I know the outcome, what I want is what prosecution and defence said and the judge’s reasoning for the length of sentence.

Grateful for help here, google has not been forthcoming save to give me the local press reports.

You can request transcripts, details of how to request them here:

Thank you. I suppose i had hoped they would be on line but until the HMCTS programme goes through I assume that is a vain hope..

Transcripts cost an awful lot of money. There isn't enough money in the court system as it is. Criminal trials are open to the public, so that's your remedy if you know in advance you want to know what's going on.

You have to pay for the transcription yourself. I don't even know that you're entitled to it unless you're one of the parties involved in the case.

Well, I wouldn’t want the cash strapped service to bear more at the moment..

I recently saw that two people I know a bit have been sent down for fraud. I wanted to know more about what had happened as from the little I do know they must have been desperate. I also wanted to know which prisons they are in to write to them. We bought a dog from them and I thought a picture might cheer them up.

You can apply to the court for copies of documents, the judgment would have most of what you want in it, you may be able to request sentencing notes and copies of statements as well, just ask for them in your application.

Madeline18 · 20/06/2018 13:13

Whoops you might need criminal rather then civil www.justice.gov.uk/courts/procedure-rules/criminal/docs/2015/crim-proc-rules-2015-part-05.pdf

insertimaginativeusername · 20/06/2018 13:14

You only know them a bit but want the ins and outs of their criminal trial??

The court transcript won't tell you which prison they're in, anyway.

Melliegrantfirstlady · 20/06/2018 13:16

I would question why you need to delve into this so deeply if all you did was buy a dog from them.

The court transcript won’t tell you where they are now? Sure the local news would give an indication of the crime and the reasons for it.

prh47bridge · 20/06/2018 14:50

To find out which prison they are in you can use the Prisoner Location Service. You won't get that from the trial documents. The PLS will only give you their locationif they consent to you being told.

Getting the sentencing remarks would cost you several hundred pounds. A full transcript could run into thousands. You are probably better relying on press reports. However, unless the hearing was in private or there are reporting restrictions in place, anyone can apply for a transcript of the hearing. As this was a criminal case you don't need to be involved in order to get a transcript.

Mellie, “ hate the sin, love the sinner “comes into it as does the injunction to visit those in prison. And, though it’s not your business, we kept in touch after the sale.

Thanks to those who have been helpful. I’m not condoning their actions but I want to check they will be ok both inside and when they get out.
