Tv Licence advice?

So.... Today I had the lovely gift of a BBC thug at my door.

I have a TV but I can't get any signal so I have had to go to other means such as getting cartoon network programmes on youtube using my laptop and hooking it up to the Tv.

My kids were having their lunch and a man came to the door and after the last 2 rude ones that came to my door, one of which came at 9pm and flashed a torch through my letterbox and hallway window, I stopped answering the door because they just won't hear my words.

The one that arrived today has an attitude problem, pressed his face against the window (rude man he is) and saw my tv functioning with we bear bears playing and I am literally wondering now If I am going to get a fine because it did just look like cartoon network was playing even though it was not? any idea if he can fine me despite him having no real proof and not being inside my house???

No, they can’t. If they bother you again just repeat that you do not watch live TV and they will not be entering your house until they have a court warrant.

Have you registered on the TV licensing website as not watching live TV? If you’re on their system as this it usually stops them coming out.

Call them and tell them you don't watch live tv. I haven't had one for 5 years now because we just watch youtube, Netflix and amazon prime. Never had any hassle at all.

thank you. I was just rather worried. I mean it looked bad and if you were stood with your face pushed against a window and there's a tv on with programmes typically on cartoon network I can imagine it looking bad.

the chap is from Capita, not the bbc, and has no right of entry.

possession of a t v is irrelevant. if you watch any live tv on any device or use i player, buy a licence. otherwise declare no licence needed.

look on the licensing website.

mistyandthekiddos · 18/06/2018 19:07

well tbh I didn't even know you could declare not watching tv until about 40 minutes ago. :')

Smile it is like owning a car. insure or sorn. do nothing not an option.

surprised that with no tv licence you havent had letters before now. I registered a new postal address and capita wrote within two days.

SegmentationFault · 19/06/2018 16:09

I'd just declare that you don't need one and then ignore them. You don't need to let them into your home.

placebobebo · 20/06/2018 10:13

Don't ignore it. Go to the licencing website and register as not needing one because you don't access iPlayer or live tv.
If you do ignore it they will go on the capita representatives say so and fine you.

I had a really nice tv license man (everybody told me they didn’t exist) I invited him in and showed him that I just use Netflix and YouTube. He was fine about it and signed us off for two years
