What happens if someone dies after being left something but before receiving it?

A legal question if anyone can help? My (elderly) mother and her two sisters were left some money a few months ago when an even older relative died. Sadly since then one of my mother's sisters has also died. Does this mean that the legacy is now split only two ways, or does my, now deceased, aunt's estate still receive her third? I would like my cousins to still benefit from what would have been their third, but would I have to arrange that myself, or will the solicitor handling everything ensure it's split three ways to include my aunt's beneficiaries? Thanks

Not a legal bod but my understanding is that the legacy would pass to her estate.

It should pass to your aunt's estate, unless (highly unlikely) there's some kind of survivorship clause.
