Gynae misdiagnosis

I recently went to hospital and had a general for a gynae procedure. The consultant gynae had ultra sound scans to refer to and also performed an internal camera survey (sorry I'm not medical).
When I recovered later in my room consultant said my condition was inoperable. I had been wrenched about a bit and was sore and bleeding.
Decided to get a second opinion from another consultant in this field.
After his internal survey he said my condition was completely resolvable via surgery...again a general anaesthetic. He could not make sense of the first consultants prognosis.
I've not been physically harmed by the first consultant, thank goodness. Though she had done some internal stitches that she'd not told me about at all. I do have operation notes from the first consultant.
Anyone have any ideas on a suitable course of redress on this? I was needlessly wrenched about and anaethasized and left sore by the first consultant for no good reason.
Should I just complain via the insurer? Private not NHS treatment.

Can't advise on course of action, but I was left physically disabled due to botched gynae op. I regret my inaction afterwards. By the time, I thought to make a complaint or claim, the actionable time period had passed.

I hope someone can advise you on what your next steps should be, but imo, when they mess up, they need to be told.

Thanks @RepealRepealRepeal and I'm very sorry to hear of your own operation trauma, that sounds truly horrific! 💐 I think what I'm gonna do is lodge a complaint via the insurer and take it from there. It's the arrogance of the first consultant really gets to me the fact that they were so very confident of what they're saying which is been proven by another to be completely and utterly wrong to my detriment.

Do a data protection request to obtain your notes and see what they. You must issue within 3 years. However what was she supposed to do? Was it an exploratory op or was there a set procedure you were expecting? Also, unless the second procedure has already been carried out, you are not yet aware whether she was wrong or not so I would do nothing until the outcome of the second procedure. Then take a view. I think that's what you would be advised in any case.

What damages do you have?

StopPOP · 07/06/2018 18:44

I'm not sure you'd have much redress if you haven't been physically harmed. One gynaecologists opinion over another perhaps. Glad you have no lasting injuries Smile

Undergoing a general anaesthetic and stitches for no good reason is damaging. The first doctor was wrong to say the treatment or procedure couldn’t be done when it could. So yes you’d have a case surely?
