Hi all
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but are you youth courts/young offenders open to the public? I want to go to a case to support Dsis and DN but I can’t tell if I’m allowed
TIA Smile

Hi, no, youth courts are closed courts due to the age of the Defendants and the reporting restrictions that goes with that.
You would be able to sit in the waiting area if you do want to support, however you wouldn't be permitted to the courtroom unless you were the appropriate adult for the Defendant.

Thank you @MCC85 - my DN(13) was the victim and is giving evidence against a youth. Will his mum be allowed into the courtroom as he gives evidence as his guardian? Sorry for the questions, this is all very new!

I'm not sure as a witness, they would need to speak to the Court's witness care team as it may have been arranged for evidence to be given from behind a screen or via a video link.
Witnesses are kept away from the main waiting area and it might be worth your DN asking for a tour of the court from Witness Care, they can arrange these fairly easily and will be able to show the courtroom, the waiting areas and also go through what happens in court and who is who, they are helpful to adults, so definitely would benefit a child.
Good luck, I hope it all goes ok, and isn't dragged out for your family xx
