I live in a leasehold block, on my own, with carpeted floors as per my lease. I live very quietly, just walk around no heavy impact on the floor, no new furniture etc, been there 6 years. neighbour downstairs has had chandelier fall down(also after many years)- his flat is rented out- and is saying its my fault!!! I live alone and am very stressed and would be grateful on how to answer him thanks-to me its a joke but he is nasty he may threaten legal action

I would let him threaten what he likes.
No solicitor would take him seriously. Ignore him

thanks, its what I thought but he is very intimidating and I am very bad with handling these things!

On what grounds is he claiming it's your fault? He's chancing his arm you'll stump up.

he has asked if I have been renting my flat out, as another neighbour is doing airBNB, he lives abroad, so I have said nothing in my life has changed and its nothing to do with me and I haven't even had visitors staying recently, he's on another time zone so waiting to see if theres a reply-trying to be ready for it. he's copied to the other tenants and managing agent too

If it's verbal ignore him. If he writes maybe write back (send by post possibly recorded and keep copy) saying you deny responsibility. If he gives any reasons respond very briefly.

If you feel physically intimidated definitely contact the police.

thanks, this was sent by email and copied to other residents (none of whom get on as there have been loads of problems in this building)
I replied in my email that nothing has changed for me and that it must be a problem in his flat. we also live on a main road with lots of traffic vibration

I have copied my reply to the managing agent and directors of the building

he also changed the flooring to a wood floor without consent in his flat so would that be ammunition?

Yes it is. If he persists, mention in your email that perhaps it has something to do with the increased vibration and airborne noise caused by his having wood floors and could the freeholders advise on whether the laying of wooden floors is permitted for other residents as you assume he has been given a licence to alter. Cheeky fucker!
