Parking fine, appeal?

Hi, I have received a parking fine from euro car parking. I attended an astrology event at a local area last weekend and was waved into the car park by the organisers upon arrival. It was dark of course and after 6pm. I didn't even consider I had to pay parking. I was there 20mins (poor visibility) and now have a £50 fine rising to £85 in 14 days. I don't have a leg to stand on regarding an appeal do I? This gets worse..... I went back the following night whet n the skies were clearer, that fine will be in post won't it? £100! Any advice appreciated.

Appeal what have you got to lose?
I have appealled twice on car parking fines and both times I was successful.

Euro Car Parks? LOL

They never ever do anything. File the fine in hte bin and forget about it.

Pepipoo forums will attest to this. Ive had countless such "fines" from ECP, all gone in the bin - never heard anything from the would-be cunts in years.

Ignore ignore ignore. It's not a fine it's an invoice. Make no contact at all. I had three last year and did exactly that. In the end they give up.

It used to be the case that you could safely ignore parking companies. However, the law changed in 2012. It is now much easier for parking companies to sue the registered keeper of a car that has broken the regulations.

Having said that, statistics from the British Motorists' Protection Association suggest that Euro Car Parks are unlikely to sue. Apparently they issued over 367,000 tickets last year and only 2 ended up in court. If these statistics are correct it may be safe to ignore them.

I would love to ignore it but it would keep me awake at night thinking I'd get hit with extra fines and fees and end up on one of those TV programmes where the voice over says "and her £50 fine spiralled to £1250". I have submitted an online appeal but expect to get nowhere. Will be gutted if I get another letter next week. That's such an expensive mistake but to do it twice!!!

You shouldn't ignore it. As p.p said, the legislation has changed and you can and will more than likely be taken to court. Not sure why people continue to pedal out the advice to ignore these Fines.

FancyThatFenceEdge · 03/03/2018 19:33

@WonderWhippt - did you miss the prior post by @prh47bridge explaining that only TWO cases from ECP went to court?

If people are stupid enough to pay, then its no surprise they get "fined" in the first place.

Advice is only good if you take it - so this thread is utterly pointless given that the OP has communicated with ECP to appeal.

What grounds are you going to appeal it on?

Hohofortherobbers · 03/03/2018 20:50

Very shaky grounds. It was dark, I was attending an organised event and was directed into the car park with no expectation of a charge. I was there 20 mins, it was a genuine error, if I'd known I had to pay I would have. As I said, I expect to get nowhere with this but will appeal to their better nature (!)

Bit of an update. The car park apparently is split into public 'free' parking and parking for local pub (refundable at the bar) I parked in the correct place by chance on the second occasion I went. Dh has spoken to pub manager who says most appeals are accepted. I have sent in my appeal, however in a fit of 'what's the point of this' paid the £50 yesterday as well. Not sure if that negates the appeal or whether it will still be considered.

I can't find anything definitive on this but I suspect you will never see your £50 again. Sorry.
