Anyone advise re DM's legal position?

DM bought a house 30 years ago with her Sister/my Aunt. They both owned a half share of the house and converted it loosely into two flats upstairs and downstairs.

My Aunt passed away last year and left her estate to her 3 children. The only thing she had of value was the house.

What is DM's legal position now wrt to the house? Do my cousins have the same rights as she does - are they considered equal owners or does it depend on the wording of the Will? Can they force DM to sell so they can get the money?

That's a good idea about checking with the Land Registry.

Your poor Mum Ruffian she must be so worried. Thanks

Thanks Ada, actually she's a bit oblivious to the possible problems - she's become a lot vaguer since my Aunt died. I'm the one who's worrying . A couple of my friends had horrendous experiences with their family due to wills/inheritance issues - it got really unpleasant so I just want to be forearmed in case.

You can find out right now whether they owned as joint or in common - online and instant!

Ruffian, it is that there are two different ways to own it together.

The will won’t tell you that, though.

Hi OP, any luck with finding your DM's documents?

Ruffian · 28/02/2018 13:44

Yes thanks, I saw her document today and they are definitely Tennants in Common not Joint Tennants so my Aunt was entitled to leave her share to her dc.
