Withdraw support for prosecution

After some advice please. I am victim in an assault case, it's complicated and I don't want to say too much as its so disclosing. However the stress of having to give evidence in court is overwhelming and I would have to self represent as I cannot afford a solicitor and don't qualify for legal aid as I work.
PPS decided to prosecute, they have my statement as evidence along with photos of injuries.
Can I withdraw support and if so how? If I do that will the case go ahead anyway and could the accused be found guilty in my absence

You don't need to self represent or get a solicitor. You are the victim. You are just giving evidence. You don't have to present anything. All you have to do is answer questions truthfully.

If you want to withdraw support you should inform the police or the CPS. You will have to supply a statement of withdrawal of support. They will try to persuade you to change your mind and may apply for special measures to reassure you if that is appropriate. If you still insist on withdrawing the case may be dropped. However, if they decide to go ahead you may get a witness summons, forcing you to attend and give evidence.

Thank you, and how do I go about making a statement of withdrawn of support.

Do i need to make a formal statement tknthenpolice or can I send a letter to the cps and police?

Contact the police or the CPS. They will take your statement.

May I ask, why so do you think that as a victim you would need a solicitor?

Has the court process been properly explained to you yet?

It sounds as if you are unclear on what happens and what is expected of you and that must be very unsettling.

The CPS only tend to take cases to court that need a certain standard of chance of conviction and it seems that your case has met this standard.

I think that even if you withdraw your support the case may proceed anyway but if somebody assaulted you, I feel that they deserve to be judged for their actions.

Are you under pressure from either the perpetrator or anybody else to withdraw your support for the court case?

In the end, you must do what is best for you but please don't withdraw your support solely because you are confused about what will happen in court.

Good luck.
