Failed to update DVLA about address change & possible speeding ticket

On the 19th December I believe I got caught by a mobile speeding camera van. No point making excuses as I only have myself to blame. I've been anxiously checking the post for a notice of prosecution which hadn't yet arrived. My DH is actually the registered keeper (although it's 'my' car as he has a company car) and queried whether we had updated the address in the log book when we moved house (back in Aug 2016!). I have just checked the V5 and despite updating our licenses etc it looks like we didn't update our address on there. I'm worried now I could be in a lot of trouble (or have gotten DH in trouble) as getting caught speeding and then having incorrect details isn't good is it? I've been worried about this anyway just waiting for the ticket to arrive but now to see I've messed up twice by not keeping the DVLA updated is actually making me feel sick. Has anyone any advice please? Obviously we are updating the log book details asap.

Hello, Sorry to drag up this thread again.
I was contacted about a driving offence that occurred on 22.4.19. I spoke to a member of JBW on 9.12.19 and was told that I would need to pay £513. This was the first I had heard about it. The member of staff said that letters had been sent to my address, these had actually been sent to my old address. No one had called me up until December to make me aware of the offence. The member of staff told me that this was the address on my v5, however the DVLA were informed that I moved over a year ago as well as my finance agreement. I have never been in trouble with the law before and have always paid off or rightly appealed any tickets - which is two that I have received. Do I have any grounds to appeal?

Did you complete the relevant section of your V5C and send it to the DVLA? Updating your driving licence and updating your V5C are separate processes. If you only updated your driving licence they would still have had your old address on the V5C.

Failing to update the address on your V5C is an offence. If that is what happened I'm afraid you don't have any grounds for an appeal.

Thank you very much for your reply, I didn't update my v5 unfortunately- had no idea. Such a shame, expensive lesson to learn.

better check your car tax too as I think they use the V5 address to send the reminder letters. No tax discs means (obviously) that car tax defaulters are rarely spotted unless they attract attention - which you may well have done with the speeding.

BTW the V5 changed in April so the new one you get will look different.

Yes my car is taxed, thank you for the reminder 🙂

Hi all, the same happened to me. I posted the change of address document to the DVLA, but they state they didn't receive it. My fault for speeding and not checking that it had been sent back. I've found out i've been caught twice on the same speed camera and have been summonsed to court. So stressed by this, so any advice you can offer i'd be grateful
