Choosing a solicitor for will writing.

Does anyone have advice on having wills written? This is all new territory for me! I think we'll need more than the basic offer that you get where they do it for a charity donation, as we've got assets in two countries and step children to take in to account. How do I spot a decent solicitor, and how do I work out what is a reasonable cost estimate?

Absolutely, "WhataboutBob", I never recommend appointing a solicitor (having worked in High St practices for 25 years where we were always supposed to suggest it Hmm.

It's always going to be better to appoint close friends or siblings as executors. If/when they run into problems, and just need a hand with completing the paperwork, they can pay a solicitor for a few hours' work and save thousands which is what a % charge will usually run into.

That’s what I thought, good to have a bona fide solicitor confirm it!
