Decree nisi

The decree nisi has been given. This was around 8 weeks ago. The decree absolute has not been forthcoming and when I checked with my ex he tells me that it won't be given until the marital home is sold (on the market for ages). My understanding is that the decree nisi was the granting of the divorce and the absolute is a formality. Am I completely wrong??

Generally the absolute isn’t sorted until financial matters are resolved but this means consent order not sale of house.

Who was the petitioner? Him I presume ? You could apply for absolute 3 months after the six week deadline

Thank you. Yes, he's the petitioner.
Consent order?? Would I have already signed this? We agreed terms perfectly amicably and I signed everything I was given (checked thoroughly, obviously).

Yes, I've just seen that 3 month thing. Can he block me in any way to prevent me from applying for the absolute?

A consent order is a legal binding document setting out how you have sorted your finances on divorce. This is an important document as it prevents either of you claiming against the other in the future.

He can try to prevent it but it’s down to a judge
