Advice on insurance needed

Accident yesterday. Other driver has admitted full liability. This morning first thing his insurance company call me asking to take on my claim, repair my car, arrange car hire, deal with injuries claims. I'm suspicious of them trying to get in quick. My car had to be recovered, not sure if it will be repairable. Advantage to me will be not having to pay then claim back my excess. Any disadvantage? Am I likely to get a worse deal?

Unlikely
If he's admitted liability this just makes it quicker. Normally your insurer dies this, then bills the insurer of the label driver.

This should make it quicker. I'd ring your insurer and ask how to progress.

If it's a write off then that's a whole new fun game of negotiation.

Why would HIS insurance company want to make things easier for you? Was it really his insurance that phoned you? Go through your own.

Obviously they want to control costs. But what disadvantage would I be in? If it's a write off would it be easier to get a fair deal from my insurance? I'm with a smaller company, 1st national or something, they were cost effective, he's with direct line, wondering if that makes a difference??

Yep.

Ring your insurer just to check.

It's a cost control move. For repairs it's probably quicker and they may be trying to stop you using policies where you get 'equivalent' hire cars. These are hired and add £££ to costs for the liable insurer rather than you having their wee Ford Ka repair vehicle.

Thank you, mine is actually 1st central. It does seem more straightforward to go through his, just worried about regretting it later, it's not knowing the extent of the claim that's concerning everyone I guess. My car disabled itself, seat belts went off, visible damage to exhaust, both bumpers, boot, rear panels and bonnet not aligned. New car on a plp Sad

In that case defo go with Direct Line. Pretty sure 3 year warranty on work.
Were you injured?

I've had this when a HGV hit me, got a call from their insurers within 2hrs of the accident, my car was collected and a hire car made available the next morning. Unsurprisingly my car was a write off so they gave fair market value and an injury compensation amount. I haggled a little within reason which they accepted. All done and dusted within 1 week and no impact to my premiums .

I tried to stick with my insurance, but two clear days later with no hire car I've contacted direct line and transferred it all to them, they immediately got hire car sorted and answered the phone straight away and were helpful. Unlike 1st central who took 20 minutes to answer the phone and were completely uninterested in getting anything resolved. I had a sore neck on Wednesday so I've got an injury claim open but I'm feeling a lot better today so hopefully won't need to claim for that.

We went through other drivers insurance when we had a non fault crash. We chose to because our insurer passed us onto a third party accident handler who wanted to hire us a car for way over the expected price, we would have to pay then claim the cost back from the other insurer, it was our insurer totally taking advantage and ripping the liable driver off. We declined and dealt with the liable drivers insurer and got impeccable service, car hired, car fixed at approved dealer and returned quickly. We left our insurer again the end of the year and took out cover with the liable drivers company we were so pleased with the service. Grin
