Divorce and untangling a financial web

Posting for a friend who has recently left her husband.

The husband is the sole earner, DF is a SAHM. Her husband runs his own business which DF doesn't really know anything about. He pretty much refuses to answer any questions when she asks about money, where their money comes from, how much money they have etc. Hes been like this for years.

If she needs money he transfers it into a joint account (where household bills are paid) and she transfers her bit into her account. Although she does know what he does vaguely she has no idea how much money they have, where it is or how to access it. The house is mortgage free, she knows they have pensions and has found some evidence of money being in the Seychells.

Where does she even go to start untangling this mess? She doesn't know what she can claim if anything as she is on the books as an employee and is paid each month. She doesn't know if she pays tax or NI. Although she doesn't work she's on the books for tax reasons according to her DH. Along with numerous other friends and family members. Some of who do actually work for him.

Both their names are on the house, she owns the car and has a credit card which he pays each month.

First stop has to be a lawyer surely. He will not appreciate anyone digging around in his financial stuff. Theres no tax returns anywhere in the house, he has an accountant which does all that.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Yes a lawyer
Her ex will have to declare all income on his form e when the divorce gets underway
If she is suspicious she can employ a forensic accountant to dig around
