Can I ever rent privately again if I've been previously evicted?

I'm close to getting evicted. We over-stretched ourselves on our current lease and things have gone from bad to worse and we are now in rent arrears. The landlord won't break the lease despite us begging to go.

If/when he eventually evicts us, what happens? I'm pregnant and we have a dog. Don't really want to go in to emergency social housing, I could stay with a family member until we have enough money for another (cheaper) rental deposit. But would anyone ever let to us again??

I'm a landlord: I'd normally ask for a reference from your current landlord or agent, but I wouldn't ask for details from a previous one.

If you applied to rent and were currently living with relatives, I'd almost certainly just accept the employer reference as proof you could afford the lease. Might possibly ask for a character reference, but tbh prob wouldn't.

So I wouldn't worry. Just move in with family, save up and try again!

Hi Relax thanks for this!

As long as we can prove we make a certain amount of money it should be ok?

Our current rent is eye watering (think thousands a month), DH is freelance and that's why our circumstances have changed significantly- money is never guaranteed. He is now looking for a permanent job and I am temping to get us by too and will be back in full time work after the baby is born.

So as long as we can prove we can comfortably pay the rent, it should be ok?

Yes it should be fine! As a landlord I'd want to see confirmation from employers that you have permanent jobs and the salary: so long as it looks to me like you can cover the rent I'm happy.
