A will/probate question

FiL passed away in Dec.
Large, complicated family and Mil still lives in their - huge - marital home.

I would imagine his DS and DD are executors.

Lots of grandchildren, have no doubt he would leave something to my DS x 2 - he's collected various antiques for them over the years and wanted to help them through Uni.

No idea about will. Sure he would have made one as there is a lot of money and property. DH won't ask for fear of offending/upsetting anyone, although he was close to both parents.

Keep checking GOV.uk and no sign of probate.

My questions are - how long can probate take with a relatively large estate, and there's no chance of DH or DSs being 'done out' of any inheritance due to dodgy shenanigans by other relatives is there?

TIA x

Just to clarify it's actually DH step dad, but he brought him up from 7 so effectively his Dad, the DD and DS mentioned are FiL from first marriage.

Probate can take up to 6-9 months. Complicated estates or contested wills can drag on into years though

I think your husband needs to ask his family what's going to happen

Thanks diamond - and I agree!

It may be that FIL has left everything to MIL, in which case there's absolutely no rush for her to go through probate. If everything was in joint names she may not bother at all.
