Hi everyone. I have a very annoying situation that just keeps on playing on my mind. I had a silly car accident (some small animal run out on the road and i tried not hit it).

I did damage to 2 parked cars, one guy didnt have a car insurance. another was a write-off and so was mine. Both my car and the other write-offs were really cheap cars (mine around 1k and nother 2k or so).

Only one claimed insurance so far as the guy with no insurance probably doesnt want to get into trouble.

So the question is: my insurance took my car and said they will pay me very little (around 500 after all the deductions), so i said keep my car to pay off the reminder of my insurance and cover as much cost as possible for the 3rd parties.. so my claim is minimum and i dont claim myself, only 3rd parties do...

Now i worry they will think this is strange and drag the process on and on, i emailed them and explained all this. I really dont want to talk to them, as i am so down about all this, each conversation is painful...

I purely did it to claim as little as possilbe due to being at fault...

Any help will be hugely apprciated... i cant sleep at night!

Thank you ladies xxx

To be honest I think trying to make your claim situation look better by not claiming for own damage at this point is a waste of time. You've got a fairly serious own-fault claim on your record, and whether the claim is for your car or someone else's is neither here nor there. The situation is what it is, just accept it, take a deep breath and do whatever your insurers suggest.

I agree, but 500 pounds wont change my life and thats why i decided to try. I am just worried that the insurance will find it strange... i just want this over, i dotn want any money, just the cliam to be dealt with, so i can move on and drive again..

My question was more about insurance being after me coz i refused my claim...

BTW if it helps anyone in the future, the less your cost is the better(new insurance always asks how much was the cliam and you climed yourself) ! I just found out.

You are mad. Use the 500 to help pay your increased premiums if you get a new car

user1492287253 · 11/07/2017 19:19

the difference in premium between having a 1500 claim and a 2000 one is tiny. you is bonkers or misinformed.
take the money

specialsubject · 11/07/2017 22:30

Take whatever is going. And to be honest, it is a pity the uninsured car wasn't written off.

Your premiums will be judged on the fact you ploughed into 2 cars. It will not make a difference that you saved them a few hundred pounds. You should just take what they are offering (if you feel it reflects the value of your car) and move on. You are not saving yourself any money by trying to do this.

Thanks for responding guys. I have taken the decision against making my claim for the car and wrote them a letter. Does anyone (that maybe in this industy) know what would now take place. My insurance payment came out as usual even though they should be taking money from my written off car, at least thats what they said before.

When should i expect to hear back?

I am starting a new business now and the only worry i have is to sort this my side asap and move on!!!

Thanks for your help

who are you insured with? honestly i have worked in insurance for 30 years and it hasnt worked like that

user1492287253 · 13/07/2017 20:13

ok i have been sucked in.
your car is written off. its worth 500.
you have an outstanding premium of 200
the 500 cannot materialise as a credit unless you claim.
usually if you owe a premium it will be paid to whoever set up the credit agreement first. that may not be the insurance company. BUT that only happens if you claim and agree settlement
