Will query

My Mum died last week and we are starting the process of probate. She was a really organised person so I assumed all would be straightforward. Her will was one of those pre-printed versions and has been witnessed properly. But where she has written 'I appoint my daughter ..... ..... my sole executor and I give everything I own to her', she has only put my first and middle names. I know exactly why she did it, as I was separated from my then H at the time so she wasn't sure what to put and was probably going to go back to it.

Will it cause any problems legally? If it's relevant, I am the only child. TIA.

Look up the number for probate services. I think they only do regular office hours so you may not get hold of them until tues. But they are very helpful and will probably be able to tell you over the phone. I acted as executor and dealt with probate for my DM and like yours, she was very organised and it was very straight forward. I made many phone calls to probate services for my peace of mind and they were v v helpful. Be kind to yourself it can be a stressful thing to deal with at such a sad time.

No this won't cause any problems legally. It would only be a problem if it was any doubt who your mother intended to leave her estate to. However, since you don't have a sister at all, let alone one with the same first and middle names, there can be no dispute that your mother was referring to you. She could have left out your name altogether and it would still have been fine.

I agree that it won't make any difference but wanted to encourage you to ring the probate services. They were very, very helpful. Obvs. there ma be questions that they can't help with, but they were very clear to me what they could and couldn't help with.
